Creative Solutions in healthcare Hosts First Facility-Wide SecureCare Training at Normandy Terrace in San Antonio
Fort Worth, Texas, June 3, 2024— Normandy Terrace, a premiere skilled nursing facility in San Antonio, TX, becomes the first Creative Solutions in Healthcare (CSNHC) facility to have 100% of its staff participate in the SecureCare training conference. This significant milestone highlights Creative Solutions in Healthcare’s dedication to enhancing dementia care through comprehensive staff education and training
The SecureCare initiative, officially launched earlier this year, is designed to provide staff with the essential skills and resources to offer improved care for residents living with dementia. The program draws inspiration from Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care. Teepa Snow is a recognized leader in the field of dementia care, and her methods are widely regarded as the highest industry standard.
The SecureCare training places a strong emphasis on experience-based learning, allowing caregivers to understand the daily challenges faced by those with dementia.
“We are proud to see Normandy Terrace lead the way with 100% staff participation in the SecureCare training. The importance of this program cannot be overstated. It is essential that all staff receive this training. As we learned more from Teepa Snow’s training, we realized how invaluable the Positive Approach to Care system is for our entire facility teams”
Nicole Barnett, Director of SecureCare Services, explained, “The SecureCare training is transformative. It goes beyond theoretical knowledge and immerses our staff in the experiences of those with dementia, fostering a deeper understanding and more effective care techniques.”
Through SecureCare, the staff at Normandy Terrace gained critical skills to identify early signs of dementia, allowing for timely and appropriate interventions. It also taught them specialized techniques on how to approach and provide care to residents. Interactive training methods to place staff ‘in the shoes’ of residents living with dementia. This unique approach fosters empathy and helps learners understand the physical and emotional challenges faced by these residents.
Gary Blake, President and CEO of Creative Solutions in Healthcare, who envisioned & created the program stated, “We are proud to see Normandy Terrace lead the way with 100% staff participation in the SecureCare training. The importance of this program cannot be overstated. It is essential that all staff receive this training. As we learned more from Teepa Snow’s training, we realized how invaluable the Positive Approach to Care system is for our entire facility teams.”
Blake continued saying, “we look forward to rolling out SecureCare across all our facilities ensuring that every staff member is equipped with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we care for.”
The training at Normandy Terrace took place over the course of three days, allowing cohorts of staff to engage in immersive and hands-on learning sessions. This structured schedule ensures that every caregiver had the opportunity to fully participate and absorb the material without disrupting the daily operations of the facility.
By dividing the training into manageable cohorts, Normandy Terrace ensured that each group received personalized attention and time to practice new techniques, ask questions, and reflect on their experiences. This approach maximizes the effectiveness of the training and fosters a deeper understanding and empathy for residents living with dementia.
The SecureCare training equips staff with practical techniques to manage dementia-related behaviors effectively, promoting a positive and supportive environment for residents. Staff learn how to approach and communicate with residents in ways that reduce anxiety and agitation, which improves the overall quality of life for residents.
